Boston Letterboxes

From: seanchai_ma (seanchai_ma@yahoo.com) | Date: 2004-07-20 18:20:29 UTC
I am taking a trip out to the Boston Harbor Islands this coming
weekend and I was wondering if anyone knew of any letterboxes that
might be planted out there. I looked around and couldn't find any,
but maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I don't think there are any boxes out there. I would think that boxes could be placed out there though, IF it is public property and not Federal property.

Try Pirates of Hingham Harbor. I don't know if they are still there.

The Boston Harbor Islands are part of the National Park Service.

The Pirates in Hingham Harbor series, however, lists 3 boxes located
on 3 of the less popular Harbor islands. I don't know if they are
there, but my guess is that the NPS wouldn't find them.

I haven't been out to the 3 islands listed in the clues but the NPS
states for both Langlee and Ragged Islands that
much of the island is impenetrable due to poison ivy and brambles."

You probably should contact the placer first if attempting to locate
these boxes.

CSCM and I found the Pirates of Hingham Harbor were there last summer when
we found them. The islands are accessable by canoe or kayak, and there is
poison ivy, but I would warn folks more about seagull droppings (which are
everywhere and slippery.)

The Boston Harbor Islands are run by both the National Park Service
and by the Massachusett's Department of Conservation and Recreation.
I'm not sure which Island's are run by which group.

Maybe www.bostonharborislands.org will tell you that.

Have fun, I was just out on Thompson Island for three days in
June...it was GREAT!
